Veronica is our Science and Planning Manager, bringing deep expertise and a strong connection to Hawaiʻi’s land and seascapes. She is a trained ecohydrologist and phycologist (limu scientist) who was raised in Kailua-Kona and Kapahulu, an upbringing which cultivated her love for Hawaiʻi’s linked ecosystems, people, and culture.

Veronica earned her PhD in marine botany from UH Mānoa, with a research focus on ecohydrology and limu. She has worked extensively on watershed science and biocultural systems science across Hawaiʻi and the Pacific through the Water Resources Research Center, and most recently completed a postdoctoral wetland fellowship with the Heʻeia National Estuarine Research Reserve. She is dedicated to restoring and conserving wai (fresh water), healthy watersheds, estuarine and marine ecosystems and the biocultural practices and values associated with these systems. Outside of work, she is a life-long water woman who enjoys diving, surfing, and family outings.
